Welcome to the Home page

For enthusiasts of the Spanish guitar. Guitarists of all abilities are welcome at our meetings!

We meet at the Pierian Centre (Tel. 0117 924 4512), 27 Portland Square, Bristol, on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Start time is now 15 minutes earlier than before at 7:45 pm. Arrive early and help yourselves to coffee and biscuits in the reception room. We finish at around 10 pm, when if desired a local inn provides a place to sit and talk guitars.

For the meetings on the second Thursday of each month we pay £4 for the room, plus £2 towards club funds. For the fourth Thursday meetings the contribution to club funds is only £1 (£5 total). These funds will be used for the purposes of booking artists and venues etc..

The Society founders and others decided in 2009 to formalise the Society in order to ensure it's future success. A Constitution was drawn up, and the first AGM was arranged to accept this and to appoint a Committee. The AGM took place on the 14th January 2010.

Further Information

Our first meeting was in November 2005, ending a long period without a society in Bristol catering for enthusiasts of the Spanish guitar. The main focus of the society is therefore on acoustic, finger-style, nylon strung guitar, particularly classical, but also allowing for arrangements of other music (jazz, blues, popular etc.).

The purpose of meeting regularly is to get to know other guitarists, share ideas, and to develop confidence and experience of playing in the company of others. We play in ensembles and for each other during the meetings. We also organise recitals and master classes. In April 2009 we decided to have a second meeting every month for ensemble playing, which have been a success, encouraging guitarists of all grades to take part, either in small groups or everyone together.
